Sleep Tight Training Programme

25th April 2017

Children's Sleep Charity has secured funding for some training for practitioners.

To be eligible to apply for a funded place you must work in South Yorkshire or Bassetlaw.

The Sleep Tight training course has been produced in partnership with Professor Heather Elphick from Sheffield Children’s Hospital’s sleep clinic and provides comprehensive training and awareness in sleep issues, and a "ready to use" sleep workshop resource enabling staff to deliver an accredited 5 week workshop programme directly to families in the community. Research shows that sleep issues are extremely common and a cause of enormous stress for families. They may also impact on already existing difficulties such as behavourial issues, educational attainment and mental  health and wellbeing.

This training will examine the importance of sleep and resolving sleep issues using cognitive and behavioural techniques.  Participants will be provided with training materials to use directly with families so that 5 week workshops can be held in your centres. All the materials are provided to offer these workshops including a PowerPoint and photocopiable handouts. The course has been independently evaluated by Nottingham University and on average children were found to get an additional 2.5 hours sleep per night once parents completed the workshop.

The training will take place across two days, Thursday 25th and Friday 26th May 2017, 9.30am - 4pm, at The Holiday Inn, Rotherham

We have 24 places available, and these will be offered on a first come first served basis to those who meet the criteria.  A booking form is attached and you will be advised if you have successfully secured a place within five days of retuning the form.

Successful delegates must not charge parents to attend the five-week workshop, our ethos as a charity is that sleep support should be freely available.  Successful candidates must complete and return a cast study to us by the 31st December demonstrating how a family has successfully accessed the support. Evaluation forms must be completed after each round of workshops and sent to The Children’s Sleep Charity so we can monitor results.

It is important that if you accept a place you do attend, funding is limited and ordinarily this training costs £395 per delegate.  If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to contact Lauren Slack,
