The Junction aims to contribute to the prevention of sexual abuse by children and young people. The service works with children and young people aged 7-17. We work with around 60-70 young people each year. Our ReachOut Rotherham CSE service is an independent, preventative CSE service representing an innovative partnership.
The Junction project networks with other agencies and communities, and the development of primary prevention services. The work of the service fits with the Every Child Matters outcome ‘Stay Safe’.
The direct work with children, young people and their families is underpinned by solution focused1 and narrative2 principles and practices.
The Junction provides formal assessments and individual work with young people who are experiencing difficulties with their sexual behaviour, and with their families. Together we identify and develop solutions based on managing their behaviour. Strength based models of assessment are recommended3. The aim of the assessment is to assess the level of intervention required to assist the child or young person in maintaining a future that is free of the sexually concerning or harmful behaviour.
Our ReachOUt service is a multi-disciplinary team with highly skilled and motivate staff from a number of professional backgrounds including probation, youth offending, social work, teaching, counselling, psychotherapy, police and youth work.
ReachOut works with schools, communities and individual children to help raise awareness of sexual exploitation and reduce the risk to all children but targeting those identified as being particularly at risk.
We offer direct services to children and young people between the ages of 7-17 years old whose sexual behaviour is a problem. This will include children and young people who have displayed sexually concerning behaviour, who have harmed someone sexually or have been charged with a sexual offence.
Support and advice services to families in understanding and managing their child's behaviour.
Services to professionals and agencies to advise and support them in this area of work.
Training and education in respect of children and young people with sexually concerning or harmful behaviour. (The outcomes of these training programmes are to increase knowledge and confidence regarding this area of work; to increase safety within school environments and to enable a looked after child or young person who is displaying sexual behaviour to remain with his/her current placement).
