Brampton Youth Group

Our Aim is to promote the personal and social development of young people in their transition form adolescence to adulthood by providing a range of activities and information, advice and guidance. • Issue based youth work – drugs/alcohol misuse- sexual health – staying safe • Job-search • Youth theatre • Detached Youth Work-working with young people in Brampton & West Melton • Junior/senior youth club for 8 to 18 years

Brampton Youth Group was established in 1996, we work with young people aged    between 10 and 19 years who live or meet in Brampton, we work with young people in a variety of setting, including detached, centre based work.
Our aim is to promote the personal & social development of young people in their transition from adolescence to adulthood.
In order for us to achieve our aims we use a variety of programmes and tools to engage with young people whilst working within the “Every Child Matters” framework, covering the five outcomes:
We have a number of projects that help us reach/achieve these outcomes:
• Job Skills, access to employment training & skills
• Youth Theatre
• Detached Youth Work
Brampton Youth Group recognises that it cannot meet the needs of all young people working in isolation, over the years we have built and developed links, networks and partnerships in order to ensure that young     people get the services and outcomes that they require. The young person’s needs are central to our organisation, where we cannot deliver an outcome we will refer on to       another agency that can.  We are always looking for ways in which to improve our   service, ensuring a joined up approach to our work.

Services

We deliver a range of services to children and young people living or meeting in Brampton & West Melton. these include:
Youth Theatre – young people write, direct and perform their own plays as well as doing the classics, they also learn set design, costume design, sound and lighting.
Detached Youth Work-we use detached youth work as a tool to engage young people who are not in employment and training and who are at risk of offending and or drugs/alcohol misuse, we build positive relationships with young people and support them in developing new skills and/or referring them on to other agencies.
Issue Based Youth Work- we have a general access youth club where we are able to carry out issue based youth work and early intervention work, it also provides young people with a safe space where they can meet new friends and access the internet.

Partnership working

We work in partnership with RMBC youth service.  We access all our youth work training through the youth service.  We also sign post young people on to their services and in addition to this they come to our centre to deliver specific targeted youth work to identified groups of young people.  We liaise with them to ensure that there is no duplication of services this ensures young people have more provision and more choice.
We also work in partnership with the Far Out Theatre company who support us in our youth theatre work, combining the ethos of traditional youth work with theatre workshops allowing young people to access the arts in a none threatening environment.
We work closely with the SNT when delivering workshops on Anti Social Behaviour its impact on the community and the legal outcomes.  We have done this programme for the last two years and it has been very successful.

Comments from beneficiaries & partners

I want to thank you, if it wasn’t for the work in the kitchen I wouldn’t have got my job, Michael, young volunteer, special educational needs.

I never thought that our Hannah would have done anything like this, through coming to theatre group you’ve really brought her out of her shell and got her to get out of the house and mix with people….
